Philippine School for the Deaf receives learning equipment from AdventEnergy, New World Makati Hotel

AdventEnergy, the leading retailer in the country and retail electricity supply arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation, launched the Advent Wave of Service campaign with top luxury hotel New World Makati Hotel.

The project involves the donation of learning equipment to capacitate the newly renovated library of the students of the Philippine School for the Deaf in Pasay City.

AdventEnergy recognizes the crucial role of both the public and private sector in ensuring education is not only accessible but also tailored to the needs of students and aligned with the call of the times to be more inclusive and sensitive to the differently-abled.  With the help of the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc., both companies joined hands in turning over knowledge TV and portable media library to the school, which has been a beneficiary of the New World Makati Hotel for two straight years.

“As we power the country, we are also aware of the plight of our deaf students, who need to learn and enrich themselves to be able to contribute to society. We are fortunate to be able to partner with other private businesses like New World Hotel that are heeding the call for inclusivity and diversity through education-enhancing projects,” said AdventEnergy’s First Vice President and Head of Retail James Byron Yu during the turnover ceremony.

The project is also very much aligned with one of the key pillars of social responsibility being espoused by the New World Makati Hotel. Ms. Rochelle Alcantara, Director of Social Impact, New World Makati Hotel said: “Our donation to the students from the Philippine School for the Deaf is tied to our Rosewood Impact Campaign that aims to promote inclusivity and diversity within our organization. We believe in their talent and the heights they can reach when given enough resources and opportunities to be productive individuals of society. We have taken significant strides to be inclusive by providing employment opportunities to graduates of the school. They have done well and we intend to continue to make our hotel a home to the differently abled.”

Ms. Claire M. Baldueza, Administrative Officer IV, Philippine School for the Deaf expressed her gratitude to the proponents of the Advent Wave of Service campaign.

“We thank our partners from New World Makati Hotel, AdventEnergy, and Aboitiz Foundation for their generous contribution to our school. The learning equipment and appliances will greatly enhance the students’ experience and provide them with the tools they need to succeed in their academic journey,” she said.

Also present in the turnover ceremony were representatives from the Knowledge Channel — AdventEnergy’s partner in education projects — as well as the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.
